Write a Blog to Make Money

These days anytime you read a list of ideas on how to make extra money or make money from home, blogging for dollars will probably be included in that list. Writing a blog to earn an income online is definitely not a new concept and many people have jumped on board.

I started writing online long before I really understood what it meant to write a blog. All I knew was that I enjoyed writing and when I discovered that there were places that I could write online I jumped at the chance. I believe my first experience with writing online started with a newsletter. Wow, this is doing it old school. I published an online newsletter before blogs really even became popular. Back when I published my book The Balanced Woman I started an email newsletter to help market the book. I enjoyed this newsletter and met some great women online.

As time went on I did not continue this newsletter. But, writing was still a big part of my life. Several years later I discovered other avenues of writing online. I started writing and publishing articles on Ehow.com. I really enjoyed writing How To articles on this site and was consistently making a monthly income. Not enough to quit my day job but the money I earned came in handy. Each month I had a deposit in my Paypal account from the articles I wrote and published on this site. (I no longer write for this site because they changed hands and made it more complicated to write for them. I was very sad about this. Demand Studios took over and it no longer became fun to write for them.)

The next site I started to write for was Hubpages.com. I have not really made that much money on this site, however there are reports of writers on this site making up to $1,000 per month publishing articles. There is a whole category dedicated to articles about how these writers are making money. I tried some of the techniques offered but found myself getting frustrated with the complicated methods and calculations that online writers seem to suggest are the reasons for their success. I took a break from writing here but now I am back hoping for better results.

There are tons of places to write online to make money. And there are an equal amount of people offering advice on how to make money online writing. I believe that it is possible to become successful writing a blog for money. However, it probably won’t happen over night. If it does, congratulations!

On Twitter there is a blogger name Dooce. She has so many followers, over a million! I have read about her I think in a major publication. I imagine she is pulling in a lot of money from her blog in ads alone. In fact, I’m sure she has written a book or two??

Anyway, to me blogging is a possible business but it definitely is not one to go into lightly. Even though this venture has become popular it should not be underestimated. I personally believe you must love to write. And you should have patience and vision. God bless you if you tap into a vein that is full of followers and readers. Stay focused and diligent. Don’t give up when it seems no one is reading. Be open to suggestions and network. Blog about something you love—this will carry you through the rough spots.
